Emoyeni – Cultivating Wisdom & Compassion

Emoyeni Climate Activism

line

Emoyeni Retreat Centre has chosen to become an active agent in the planet-wide upwelling of grassroots energy to reverse the calamitous results of global warming and to bring about a regeneration of the planet. Most of us feel overwhelmed by the vast scale of the crisis and despair at the ongoing failure of the world’s politicians and big business to embrace the crisis with the urgency required. We feel powerless…

To quote Paul Hawken “The climate crisis is not a science problem. It is a human problem. The ultimate power to change the world does not reside in politicians or in technologies. It relies on reverence, respect and compassion – for ourselves, for all people, and for all life.

Our job is to put life at the centre of every action and decision. It applies to all of life – grasslands, farms, insects, forests, fish, wetlands, coastlands and oceans – and it applies equally to families, communities, cities, schools, religion, commerce and governments. And most spectacularly to climate.

The current growth of the climate movement is magnificent, but it remains a small fraction of the world. Hundreds of millions of people need to realize that they have agency, that they can take action, and that collectively it is possible to prevent runaway global warming.”

What can we do

As a start we would like to present the approach taken by Paul Hawken, an American environmentalist, who has founded an organisation called Regeneration and written a brilliant book titled Regeneration: Ending the climate crisis in one generation. This gives us a what-to-do manual for all levels of society, from individuals to national governments and everything in between.
