Many of us are familiar with the concept of compassion when directed at others…Few of us know how to show compassion to ourselves. To quote Sharon Salzberg, the best-selling author and teacher of Buddhist meditation practices in the West: “We may have been taught that self-compassion is indulgent, even lazy, but in reality, it is our most powerful and effective means to make a change in our lives, get better at something, change a bad habit, and just be happier.” Moreover, self-compassion is not only a skill that anyone can strengthen through practice, but also one of the strongest predictors of mental health and wellness.
This retreat is an opportunity to bring our full and patient attention to the present moment, whatever it is, to learn to gently meet and befriend the confused parts of us that stumble in the dark waging war with each other. We will move through a variety of practices that help us deepen into the qualities of self-acceptance and self-compassion. These are essential aspects of happiness and success and form a core component of the resilience we require to face our rapidly changing and stressful world. Our practice will be enhanced by the noble silence that will be kept from Thursday Friday evening to Sunday morning.
