The most common form of violence today is the violence we do to ourselves…
To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns,
to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects,
to want to help everyone and everything, is to succumb to personal violence…
It destroys the our own inner capacity for peace…
(Adapted from Thomas Merton)
Metta is the Buddhist practice of abundant friendliness or loving-kindness; it is a practice that helps and trains us to develop unconditional kindness and compassion for all beings, including ourselves. Often the quality of our life is a reflection of the clarity and groundedness of our own heart and mind. With this in mind this weekend retreat will be dedicated to exploring ways of sharing loving-kindness and compassion with ourselves and others so that it becomes a catalyst for more joyous living.
The retreat will include meditations, nature walks, discussions and mindful activities in the gentle surrounds of the bushveld.
