“I like to think of the figures I make as companions for a personal journey…
I feel that my work is a signpost to the half-forgotten world that we all carry inside of us.
When people look at my work, I want them to think “Oh, now I remember.” Wendy Froud
Winnicott, the renowned psychotherapist, spoke about the link between creativity and creative living itself.
On this retreat we will explore and experiment with making a symbolic figurine, puppet – be it a spirit warrior or healing doll or a representative animal creature – any form that comes to mind.
During the making of this, many transformations of colour, shape, form, texture, and reflection will take place. This process can mirror and hold the varied, changing aspects of our self.
The weekend will focus on sessions of creative self- expression using varied art materials and materials found in nature. Add to this, meditation, deep guided relaxations, quiet time, walks in nature, and some safe sharing in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.
You don’t have to be an artist – you only have to be able to hold a piece of charcoal or clay to participate. Wear comfortable clothing that you can feel free to play with art materials.
Please bring along any motif, symbol, poem, photograph, object etc that is meaningful to you, that you can incorporate into your art making.
