Why is it so difficult for us to be kind, gentle or good to ourselves?
Perhaps it is because we were raised within the paradigm that we need to sacrifice ourselves in order to show we care or to be good people. Or, it could simply be that finding time for self-care just means one more thing on the already unobtainable to-do-list!
But what if caring for yourself wasn’t that difficult and did not take up extra time? What if by re-visiting or ‘re-tuning’ our emotions, thoughts or attitudes we could find that calm place where we are at our best. The Buddha’s teachings emphasise the importance of taking care of oneself as a way to show yourself, and others, compassion. The wisdom of this teaching tells us that when we are kind and good to ourselves, we are automatically kinder and of more service to others.
