SUMMARY:A quiet invitation to your self – A 2 - day inner encounter
DESCRIPTION:Etsko Schuitema \nStandard rate: R2 430 (shared bathroom\, R2 890 (en-suite) \nGenerous Rate: R2 990 (shared bathroom)\, R3 530 (en-suite) \nYou know us as a largely Buddhist-oriented centre\, but one of the things we have always believed is that truth does not belong to any single tradition — and that sometimes the clearest view of your own path comes from standing\, briefly\, on someone else’s. \nThis is why we are genuinely excited to invite you to something new. \nWe are hosting Etsko Schuitema — a Shaykh (the highest teacher) in the Darqawi Shadhili Sufi lineage\, author\, and one of the most remarkable spiritual guides we have encountered — for a two-day residential retreat. \nThis is not a Buddhist retreat with Sufi vocabulary. It is a real encounter with a living tradition that arrives at the same open ground by a completely different route. \nWhere Buddhist practice often approaches the silence through watching\, releasing\, and letting go\, the Sufi path comes through longing\, devotion\, and a love so complete that the lover disappears. The destination these traditions point to is recognisably the same. But if you have only ever travelled one road\, you may be surprised what the other one reveals — including about the path you are already on. \nWhat the retreat includes: \n– “Sohbet” — sacred conversation in the Sufi tradition\, which is less a talk and more a transmission\n– “Dhikr”— the practice of remembrance\, using breath\, sound\, and presence\n– Periods of silence and stillness\n– Space for personal reflection and questions \nEtsko does not teach “about” the path. He stands on it. Those who have sat with him consistently describe the experience less as learning something new and more as recognising something they had always half-known but never had named. \nHe is also the author of several extraordinary books — “The Millennium Discourses\,” “Intent\,”and “The Two Sandals” among them — and the founder of the Schuitema Human Excellence Group\, whose Care and Growth model has been applied inside organisations including Nestlé\, Mercedes-Benz\, and Siemens. He is\, in other words\, not a man who has retreated from the world to talk about inner life. He has carried this into challenging human contexts. \nThis retreat is for you if:\n– Your practice is genuine but you sense you are circling familiar territory\n– You are curious about the devotional and ecstatic dimensions of spiritual life that more austere traditions tend to leave unexplored\n– You want to encounter a living transmission\, not just a new set of ideas\n– You are simply drawn — even if you cannot say exactly why \nNo belief in Islam or prior knowledge of Sufism is required. No belief system of any kind is required. Only sincere openness. \nPlaces are limited. If something in this speaks to you\, we encourage you to trust that. \nThis two day retreat is a genuine encounter with another living tradition — one that may illuminate corners of our experience that our usual framework has never quite reached. \nCome prepared to be surprised by how much you recognise\, with what fresh eyes it can be seen\, and how deeply it can be re-explored. \nFor more information: \nhttps://www.schuitemagroup.com/who-we-work-with/

SUMMARY:Vipassana meditation retreat – 4 days of calmness\, mindfulness and insight
DESCRIPTION:Mervyn Croft \nStandard Rate: \nR4 560 (shared bathroom) | R5 480 (en suite) \nGenerous Rate: \nR5 680 (shared bathroom) | R6 760 (en-suite) \nPensioners and full-time students receive a 30% discount.  In the spirit of generosity Emoyeni is offering reduced rates for guests who would love to attend but are restricted by their finances.  Please contact us to discuss options. \nThis four-day Vipassana or Insight Meditation retreat gives us the opportunity to develop and deepen our practice. Within the framework of silence\, we will be able to explore the three central practices of Buddhist meditation: calming the mind\, training in mindfulness and developing insight through inquiry. We will investigate the question “Who am I” and see how this inquiry provides the key to freeing ourselves from a narrow\, self-centred way of living in the world. \nThere will be an emphasis on practicing within an atmosphere of friendliness\, kindness and acceptance. By bringing a quiet sense of humour and curiosity into all aspects of our meditation we can learn to practice in a relaxed and natural way. There will be evening discussions and time to walk and reflect in nature.

SUMMARY:Embracing grief and gratitude with a compassionate heart – A 4 day retreat
DESCRIPTION:Sue Cooper \nStandard Rate: \nR5 070 (shared bathroom) | R6 030 (en suite) \nGenerous Rate: \nR6 230 (shared bathroom) | R7 350 (en-suite) \nThis 4 night Open the Heart & Still the Mind Compassion Retreat is held in nurturing Noble Silence over the Women’s Day long weekend and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. \nInspired by the wisdom teachings of the Dharma and an integration of Buddhist and western psychology\, we will explore ways to navigate the fundamental truth of impermanence\, which touches all our lives. These teachings and transformative practices help us to face our experience of change and loss in all its forms\, as we learn to embrace “the duet of wonder and grief” (Mark Nepo in his poem\, Adrift) with courage\, kindness (metta) and gratitude. \nAs we infuse our mindfulness with self-compassion and wisdom\, we discover ways to connect more deeply with ourselves and the vulnerability of our human condition within the containment of replenishing\, shared silence. We will cultivate a safe and nourishing home within\, which strengthens our resilience and deepens our trust in our capacity to bear the unbearable and to savour the moments of beauty and joy (dukkha and sukha). \nIn addition to the silent and guided meditations in all postures\, poetry and inspiring teachings\, there will be daily qigong\, gentle walks in nature\, time for journaling and deeply restorative rest. Sue will also offer short\, individual sessions throughout the retreat for additional insight and emotional support. \nA 30-50 minute pre-retreat individual session via Zoom/Whatsapp is required for newcomers or if you have not attended one of Sue’s residential retreats before. This provides greater containment and enhances and deepens the silent retreat experience for yourself and for the group. The fee for this will be the 30-50 minute medical aid rate and will be reduced if you are not on medical aid. Please contact Sue on sue.stillmind@gmail.com to arrange a time. \nTeacher’s Dana: PLEASE PAY DIRECTLY TO SUE \nSliding Scale:\nGenerous Rate: R5000/4500/R4000\nStandard Rate: R3500/3000/2500\nReduced Rate: R2000 with further reductions on request \nPlease offer what you can from the suggested sliding scale and pay this directly to Sue with your name as Reference\, and please email your booking/POP to admin@stillmindretreats.com\, otherwise we cannot allocate this payment. Further reductions are available on request and a payment plan is offered if needed. While the full & generous rates are always very greatly appreciated\, the reduced rates allow you to choose an amount that you can manage.  https://stillmindretreats.com/event/retreat-embracing-grief-gratitude-with-a-compassionate-heart-2026/

SUMMARY:Quiet mountain – A 2-day silent meditation retreat
DESCRIPTION:Mervyn Croft \nStandard rate: R2 360 (shared bathroom\, R2 840 (en-suite) \nGenerous Rate: R2 940 (shared bathroom)\, R3 500 (en-suite) \nMeditating with calmness and clarity \nThis 2-day silent retreat will provide an opportunity to explore two aspects of Buddhist meditation practice – the gradual development of calmness and peacefulness in our mind; and the practice of awareness\, to live with more clarity and more centeredness in the present moment. This foundation of calmness helps us to meet our confused thoughts and emotions with more acceptance and kindness and\, leads to a deeper understanding of the nature of our minds. The retreat will create a gentle and relaxed space in which to explore the benefits of spending time quietly with ourselves\, to allow the qualities of calmness and clarity to develop in a natural way and to enjoy the nurturing effect of being silent in a beautiful mountain environment.
