Tsunma Tsondru

TSUNMA TSONDRU is a Buddhist nun in the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, ordained by Tai Situ Rinpoche. After a life of studying and practising as an environmental scientist and lawyer, some time spent farming and much wandering in the African wilderness, Tsondru was inspired to renounce that life and follow a new path in Buddhism. She went to Spain for a traditional Kagyu three-and-a-half years closed retreat, followed by a second closed retreat of four years. Following that, she travelled to San Francisco to study ‘The Work That Reconnects’ with Joanna Macy. Since returning to Cape Town, she has served on the Board of the Southern African Faith Communities Environment Institute, a multi-faith NGO, and as its Executive Director.
