This long-weekend Open the Heart & Still the Mind Compassion Retreat is held in containing & replenishing Noble Silence and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced practitioners.

Inspired by the wisdom teachings of the Dharma and an integration of Buddhist and western psychology, we will cultivate mindfulness and compassion practices which calm the nervous system and help integrate body, heart and mind, through Infusing Mindfulness with Metta and Compassionate Wisdom.

As we learn to listen and connect more compassionately with ourselves in ennobling, shared silence, we will cultivate a safe and nourishing home within. With a deeper understanding of self-care, we will discover the courage to honour and embody our authentic, heartfelt presence, with greater confidence, clarity and trust.

Inspired by the wisdom and practices of the Brahma Viharas (the Four Immeasurables), we will deepen our capacity for loving- kindness (metta), wise compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity, strengthening our capacity for more open-heartedness, self-compassion and healthier boundaries in our relationship to self and others

WORK RETREAT

SWEAT YOUR KHARMA

EMOYENI RETREAT

Weekend ~ April 4 – 6

Emoyeni Dana: R 400 – R2000

Over the many years the Emoyeni work retreats have almost become an institution. These weekends have helped shape our gardens and made great dents in eradicating the invasive Lantana which seriously disturbs the bushveld ecology. The retreat offers you free board and lodging in exchange for eight hours of service spread over the weekend and a chance to get out there, get your hands in the soil and sweat your karma.

The work is mostly physical, outdoor work, but this is interspersed with meditation, good food and poetry. Donation of garden gloves, plants and compost are welcome.

Take time during the Easter long-weekend to enjoy some contemplative space and give yourself the opportunity to relax and deepen your practice. Alongside some solid meditation practice, each day will include two yoga sessions. We will also include nature walks in the Magaliesburg – one of these walks will be a long one, when we will go up into the high ground and explore the kloofs and rock pools. And, there will also be a Sound Scapes one evening – a wonderful, restful way to be bathed in sound and relaxation.

A five-day Vipassana or Insight Meditation retreat gives us the opportunity to develop and deepen our practice.  Within the framework of silence, we will be able to explore the three central practices of Buddhist meditation: calming the mind, training in mindfulness and developing insight through inquiry.  We will investigate the question “Who am I?” and see how this inquiry provides the key to freeing ourselves from a narrow, self-centred way of living in the world.

There will be an emphasis on Practising within an atmosphere of friendliness, kindness and acceptance.  By bringing a quiet sense of humour and curiosity into all aspects of our meditation we can learn to practice in a relaxed and natural way.  There will be evening discussions and time to walk and reflect in nature.

Biodanza (commonly translated as “dance of life”), is a unique type of conscious dance that involves music, movement, emotion and human connection. It was developed in South America by Rolando Toro Araneda who drew on his knowledge of art, poetry, mythology, psychology and musical semantics to create this extraordinary art form which is now practiced in over 50 countries. There are no steps but it is not just free dancing. Every dance has purpose and the facilitator structures the sequence of dances in a particular way. Biodanza can be practiced at any age and at any level of fitness.

This retreat, led by art therapist Kate Shand, invites you to cultivate presence and deepen your connection to yourself and the earth. We’ll explore the transformative power of clay, a deeply elemental material born of the earth. Clay offers opportunities for mindful engagement with concepts like presence, connection, surrender, acceptance, and creativity. Clay will subtly guide you and if you are not present, it will let you know. Our journey will integrate Qigong, meditation, and mindful walks to further enrich the experience. This is an experiential retreat and no prior clay experience is required.
